The 1849 Three Cent Patterns is a United States dollar from the Early Republic Patterns (1792-1859) series — 25th of 35 years in the series. In 1849, coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features various experimental designs testing different concepts for U.S. coinage and the reverse displays various experimental designs. Minted during the age of Jacksonian democracy and the rise of the common man, as new branch mints opened in Charlotte, Dahlonega, and New Orleans. A notable auction result reached $44K in PR65 grade at Heritage Auctions. Designed by Various Mint engravers and outside artists.
