Description
The 1819 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - 9/8 is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. With a mintage of 2.7 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 3rd of 5 mint variants by mintage, with 27% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large Date and Small Date varieties. The 1819/8 overdate is a collected variety. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $38 to $2.1K depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1612.
