Description
Part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series, the 1819 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Small Date is a cent from the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of 2.7 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 3rd of 5 mint variants by mintage, with 27% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large Date and Small Date varieties. The 1819/8 overdate is a collected variety. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $38 to $1.4K depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1606.
