Description
CU-1C-1798-02B, a cud on a 1798 Draped Bust Cent, belongs to the earliest era of American coinage, when the young Philadelphia Mint was producing large copper cents under challenging conditions. The Draped Bust design by Robert Scot, introduced in 1796, featured a larger module than modern cents and the substantial die face area made these early dies vulnerable to rim fractures under repeated striking. The B suffix marks a later die state than CU-1C-1798-02A: the die break had progressed further, producing a larger or more pronounced raised mass at the coin's edge. Cross-referenced as CU-1C-1798-02B and cataloged by Cuds on Coins.
