1792 Washington Getz Pattern Silvered White Metal Idler Copy Half Dollar
Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
An 1860s Christopher Idler copy of the 1792 Washington Getz Pattern half dollar struck in silvered white metal. The silvered finish over a white metal base gives this copy a distinctive bright appearance. White metal (a tin-lead alloy) was commonly used for pattern pieces and copies in the 19th century. The silvering adds an additional layer of finish to simulate silver coinage.
Rarity Notes
Rare. Silvered white metal is an uncommon composition for Idler copies.
