Description
The 1790 Silver Medal GW-10 - The Manly Medal is filed under Washington Medals (Miscellaneous) in the Washington Pieces (1783-1800) series. This group holds Washington medals, counterstamps and replicas of many dates and makers that have no group of their own in the tree. Each page names its catalogue numbers; most were made long after 1800. Baker describes the Manly medal as the work of Samuel Brooks, published in Philadelphia by J. Manly in March 1790 and, as far as he knew, the first Washington medal issued in America; he records it in silver, bronze and tin (Baker 61). It is catalogued as Musante GW-10, Baker-61. PCGS lists it as #842158.
