Description
The 1785 C Nova 1/2P Pointed Rays Half Penny is filed under Nova Constellatio Coins in the Post-1776 Private and Regional Issues (1778-1820) series. The Nova Constellatio coppers show an eye in a glory of thirteen points crossing a ring of thirteen stars, with NOVA CONSTELLATIO, and on the reverse a large U.S in a wreath with LIBERTAS ET JUSTITIA and the date. Crosby describes them as English-made tokens intended for America and quotes Bushnell's note that they were made in Birmingham from dies cut by Wyon on the order of a New York gentleman believed to be Gouverneur Morris. Crosby knew only two pieces from the 1786 dies. PCGS lists it as #813.
