Description
CCL(T1)-10c-1974D-01 is a Type I counter clash on a 1974-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes with an account supplied by Ken Potter. The coin came from Ron Ciampichini of Michigan. Potter describes the obverse as a multiple clashed die with multiple counter-clash and the reverse as a multiple clashed die, and reports it as the first multiple counter-clash he had seen. The dies struck each other hard and repeatedly, enough to jolt them slightly in their holders, so the clash marks land in a series of slightly shifted positions. The D mint mark clashed into the reverse, cutting into the lower left leg of the first A in AMERICA; with the dies moving between clashes, those clashed Ds were then pressed back into the obverse. The result is a row of extra D images above the normal mint mark and west of it, at least five by Potter's count. The reverse shows strong, repeated outlines of Roosevelt's head, and parts of the reverse design appear more faintly on the obverse.
