Description
A yellow bronze Washington Before Boston medal struck circa 1950 at the United States Mint, cataloged as Musante GW-09-US3. This companion piece to the silvered bronze version uses the same die pairing but was struck on a yellow bronze (brass-toned) planchet without the silver wash, giving it a warm golden color distinct from the traditional copper-bronze finish of earlier editions. The U.S. Mint offered these medals in multiple finishes to appeal to different collector preferences and price points. The obverse presents Washington's military bust with the Comitia Americana Latin legend, and the reverse shows the British fleet departing Boston Harbor on March 17, 1776. Yellow bronze medals from this production run are readily identifiable by their distinctive color and the sharp strike quality characteristic of mid-century Mint production equipment. Yellow bronze, approximately 68mm diameter.
Rarity Notes
Available. Yellow bronze finish is one of several options produced by the U.S. Mint during this restrike period.
