Description
A silver Washington Before Boston medal struck circa 1910-1930 from the fifth reverse die, cataloged as Musante GW-09-P5. By the early twentieth century, the Paris Mint had progressed through multiple generations of reverse dies for this perennially popular Comitia Americana medal, each replacement die introducing subtle differences detectable to specialists. The fifth reverse represents one of the later die pairings in the series, produced during a period when numismatic interest in early American medals remained strong. The obverse shows Washington's bust with the familiar Comitia Americana legend, while the fifth reverse die reproduces the Boston Harbor evacuation scene with characteristics specific to this generation. Silver strikings from this period are less commonly encountered than bronze, as production was limited to specific collector orders. Silver, approximately 68mm diameter.
Rarity Notes
Scarce in silver. Fifth reverse die specimens are among the later Paris Mint productions and appear infrequently at auction.
