1960-D Atypical Die Clash ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-38

Description

Documented in the MadDieClashes catalog, this Lincoln Memorial Cent Small Date variety exhibits two unrelated die clash events on a single coin. On the obverse, the Memorial building roof line from the reverse die transferred through the 1 digit of the date during a clash — a bold and readily visible diagnostic. The specific obverse die is further identified by a repunched mintmark listed as Coppercoins 1960D-1MM-151 and a die crack running from the C into the E of CENT. The reverse clash is equally distinctive: the top of Lincoln's head from the obverse die passes through the NE of ONE and extends into the C of CENT. These two clash impressions may have occurred during different events with different mating dies, making this a particularly complex specimen to study. The 1960 Small Date Denver issue is already a keenly collected variety within the Lincoln Memorial series, and finding atypical die clash evidence adds considerable specialist interest.
