1960 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Small Date - Atypical Die Clash ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-37

Description

ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-37 is an atypical die clash on a 1960-D Small Date Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. MDC notes that this tilted clash turns up on many 1960-D small date cents. Marks were left by the bottom of Lincoln's bust and by the vertical from the Memorial roof to the cornice. ONE's N clashed just above Lincoln's head, and the shoulder left a mark under the D of UNITED. On the reverse, the top of the head left a mark through NE in ONE and C in CENT. Both dies were heavily abraded to remove the clash marks, but the clashes were too strong for the Mint to succeed. A curved die scratch in the field opposite column 12 identifies the die.
