Description

ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-37 This is an atypical tilted die clash found on many 1960D small date Lincoln cents. The overlay provided, shows the relative position of the dies when they did clash. This picture above shows the clash mark left by the bottom of Lincoln’s bust. The picture above shows the clash mark left by the vertical from the roof to the cornice on the Memorial building. The picture above shows the N of ONE clashed just above Lincoln’s head. The picture above shows the shoulder clash under the D of UNITED The clash mark left by the top of Lincoln’s head is seen through the NE of ONE and the C of CENT. Both the obverse and reverse dies were heavily abraded to remove all the clash marks. However, due to the strength of the clash events, the Mint was not successful. This clash event can be identified by the curved die scratch in the field just opposite of column 12.
