Description

Thirty-sixth atypical die clash cataloged for the 1960-D Small Date Lincoln Memorial Cent, this variety presents an unusual 9-degree rotational clash — the dies were misaligned by approximately nine degrees when they struck each other without a planchet between them. This rotation produces clash marks in unexpected positions compared to normal die alignment. Under the bust, transferred letters STAT from the reverse STATES are visible, displaced by the angular offset. A minor repunched mintmark adds a secondary attribution: the D shows a split lower serif where two impressions overlap. A die scratch runs from the O of ONE to the N on the reverse, providing a supplementary identification marker. The 1960-D Small Date cent is already a significant variety — the small date logotype was paired with Denver dies in limited quantities, making any additional die anomalies on this scarce subtype noteworthy. The nine-degree rotation places this firmly in the atypical category, distinct from standard clashes that occur with dies in normal alignment.
