Description

ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-31 is an atypical die clash on a 1960-D Small Date Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. In this tilted clash, the bottoms of the letters of AMERICA left a line that runs from the jacket through the mint mark into the bottom of the 6 in the date. On the reverse, the mint mark left a mark between the M and E of AMERICA, along with marks from the jacket edge and the first jacket fold. In a separate event the C and E of CENT clashed above Lincoln's head, and the top of the head left a mark through CE on the reverse. A possible third event, below the bust, shows the upper part of the A in STATES projecting from the bottom of the bust, with the reverse line from the bust bottom through STATES. A possible fourth event left a mark from the line of the lower back of the bust. Die markers: a die chip in the lower R of LIBERTY on the obverse and heavy die scratches through CENT on the reverse. MDC gives overlays for the events.
