Description

ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-19 is an atypical die clash on a 1960-D Small Date Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes as three separate tilted clashes, labelled A, B and C, each in a different area and with a different die position. In clash A, NE in ONE and C in CENT left marks on the obverse. In clash B, STATES left marks under Lincoln's bust, with a small spur by the E of STATES that comes from the right shoulder fold of the jacket; the reverse has the bar through STATES, and the lower back of the bust clashed through the E of UNITED. Clash C left reverse marks from the D mint mark, the jacket's lower right edge and its first lower fold: the D shows in the M of AMERICA, the jacket edge between the A and M, and the fold through the lower part of the first A. The lower part of the M in AMERICA left a line through the mint mark. The die is recognized by a "BIE" error in LIBERTY and a repunched D with split upper and lower serifs. MDC's clash-area notation is 1 2 3 5 (obverse) / 1 2 3 4 5 (reverse), with overlays. The coin belongs to Bob Piazza's private collection.
