Description

ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-14 This is a bit more complicated die clash that is found on the reverse of a 1960D small date Lincoln cent. This clashed die shows at least three set of clash marks. The overlays show the relative positions of the dies when they clashed. 4 / 1 D5 Notice the seemingly continuous line from the O of ONE to the E of CENT. Analysis shows this to be actually the result of two separate die clashings. The third clashing of the dies appears as a double line through the C of CENT. The overlays seen below show the two different clash positions that occurred. Though there is no evidence on the obverse die in the form of  clash marks, it is evident that another clash event did take place by the “bar” that is through the word STATES. A clash mark left by the Memorial building roof can be seen to the left of the date in the image below. The obverse does have a RPM and the reverse has a chipped A in the word STATES to help identify this multiple clash event die.
