Description

Particularly unusual among die clash varieties, this 1955 Denver Lincoln Wheat Cent exhibits both centralized and tilted die clash events — at least two planchet-less strikes at different die alignments. The reverse word PLURIBUS transferred below Lincoln's bust through the tilted clash, displaced from normal position by the angular misalignment. Doubling on clash marks from N of CENT appears under Lincoln's chin, while E of ONE ghosts near the date — both displaced by rotational offset. The I of UNITED and C of CENT clashed through Y of LIBERTY, an atypical crossing of design zones caused by the tilted alignment. Strong die scratching under LIBERTY indicates subsequent maintenance to minimize transferred marks. The 1955-D shares its date with the famous 1955 Philadelphia doubled die, but this Denver atypical clash represents a completely different manufacturing anomaly — press misalignment rather than hub displacement. The combination of centralized and tilted clash evidence on a single die is uncommon, reflecting at least two distinct misfeed events at different angular orientations.
