The 2024 (S) Proof Hon. Patsy Takemoto Mink Silver Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The San Francisco Mint struck 235,221 silver proof Patsy Takemoto Mink quarters dated 2024. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (modeled in 1931 and first used on a quarter in 2022) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. The reverse shows Patsy Takemoto Mink in a lei, holding her TITLE IX legislation, with the south wing of the U.S. Capitol, where the House of Representatives meets, behind her. Inscriptions: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, PATSY TAKEMOTO MINK, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 25 CENTS and EQUAL OPPORTUNITY IN EDUCATION. First woman of color elected to the U.S. Congress and principal author of Title IX, the landmark gender-equity-in-education law. Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray, Patsy Takemoto Mink, Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, Celia Cruz, and Zitkala-Sa. Murray was a civil rights activist and co-founder of NOW. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins.
