Description
The 2024 (S) Proof Celia Cruz Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 407,625 examples, making this ranked 5th of 25 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. Cuban-American singer known as the "Queen of Salsa" whose career spanned six decades and earned multiple Grammy Awards. The reverse depicts Cruz performing with her signature catchphrase "Azucar!" inscribed. Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray, Patsy Takemoto Mink, Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, Celia Cruz, and Zitkala-Sa. Murray was a civil rights activist and co-founder of NOW. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $28 depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper-nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #939144.
