Description

The 2023 (S) Edith Kanaka'ole Quarter is a quarter produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 503,400 examples, making this ranked 3rd of 15 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. Native Hawaiian composer, chanter, hula master, and cultural preservationist who dedicated her life to Hawaiian traditions. The reverse includes the inscription "E ho mai ka ike" (Grant the wisdom). Bessie Coleman, Edith Kanaka'ole, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jovita Idar, and Maria Tallchief honored. Coleman was the first African American and Native American woman to hold a pilot's license. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $4 depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper-nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #919363.
