The 2023 (S) Edith Kanaka'ole Quarter is a quarter from the San Francisco Mint, belonging to the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The San Francisco Mint struck 503,400 uncirculated Edith Kanaka'ole quarters dated 2023. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (modeled in 1931 and first used on a quarter in 2022) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. Native Hawaiian composer, chanter, hula master, and cultural preservationist who dedicated her life to Hawaiian traditions. The reverse includes the inscription "E ho mai ka ike" (Grant the wisdom). Bessie Coleman, Edith Kanaka'ole, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jovita Idar, and Maria Tallchief honored. Coleman was the first African American and Native American woman to hold a pilot's license. San Francisco's storied mint, born of the California Gold Rush, has evolved into the primary producer of U.S. proof coins.
