Description

The 2023 (P) American Innovation Dollar - Mississippi, Position A is a dollar minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series. The U.S. Mint total of 399,275 is for all Philadelphia Mississippi dollars of the year; it is not a count of Position A coins, and that number is not recorded. The obverse features a profile of the Statue of Liberty with a small stylized gear privy mark, and the reverses honor innovations and innovators from each state, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories. This coin honors the first human lung transplant performed by Dr. James D. Hardy and his team at the University of Mississippi Medical Center on June 11, 1963. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.49 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #916317.
