Description

Part of the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series, the 2023 (D) American Innovation Dollar - Ohio, Position B is a dollar from the Denver Mint. The U.S. Mint total of 448,225 is for all Denver Ohio dollars of the year; it is not a count of Position B coins, and that number is not recorded. The obverse features a profile of the Statue of Liberty with a small stylized gear privy mark, and the reverses honor innovations and innovators from each state, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories. This coin honors Ohio's central role in the Underground Railroad network that helped thousands of enslaved people escape to freedom before the Civil War. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.49 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #916316.
