In 2022 the West Point Mint struck 1,690 uncirculated and 7,682 proof Purple Heart Hall of Honor five-dollar gold coins, 9,372 in all. The obverse features the Purple Heart medal with A GRATEFUL NATION HONORS AND REMEMBERS, and the reverse displays George Washington's signature beneath the 1782 Badge of Military Merit. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 90% gold, 6% silver and 4% copper, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by Donna Weaver.
