2020 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - DCL 001
Error
Description
This 2020 Philadelphia Lincoln Shield cent shows a die clash on the obverse. UNUM and other parts of the shield reverse were transferred to the obverse die when the two dies came together without a planchet between them, and they now show as ghost images on every coin that die struck. Only the highest points of the opposing design usually transfer, so a clash is seldom complete. When this variety was documented, it was not yet listed on Mad Die Clashes. The 2020-P cent is copper-plated zinc and weighs 2.5 grams, and it carries Lyndall Bass's Union Shield reverse, introduced in 2010. Look for reverse design elements ghosted onto the obverse, especially around Lincoln's bust and in the surrounding fields.
