Description

Attributed by VarietyVista as VDDR-003, this 2019 Philadelphia Mint Roosevelt Dime displays a strong doubled die reverse spread on the upper right central olive leaf within the lower right leaf cluster. The doubling on the olive branch detail provides a focused diagnostic area that collectors can examine under moderate magnification. Three die stages have been documented: Stage A represents the early die state, Stage B shows a die crack along the bottom of the torch along with die chips on the mouth, eyebrow, and in the hair at mid-die state, and Stage C represents the late die state. The progression from early to late die state through these markers allows collectors to identify where their specimen falls in the production sequence. Roosevelt Dimes struck in 2019 use the standard clad composition of a copper-nickel outer layer bonded to a pure copper core, the same alloy that has been used for circulating dimes since the Coinage Act of 1965 ended silver dime production. The Roosevelt Dime design by John R. Sinnock has been in continuous production since 1946, making it one of the longest-running coin designs in American history.
