Description

The 2018 (S) Reverse Proof American Innovation Dollar - First Patent is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series. The U.S. Mint sold 74,720 of the 2018-S reverse proof American Innovation dollar. The obverse features a profile of the Statue of Liberty, and the series' reverses honor innovations and innovators from each state, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories. Introductory year featuring a single design depicting George Washington signing the first U.S. patent. This coin launched the program before the state-by-state rotation began in 2019. As a reverse proof, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared planchets with the usual proof finish reversed: frosted fields and mirror-like design elements. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.49 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #797929.
