Into the 2018 production year, Philadelphia Mint Roosevelt Dimes continued to yield doubled die reverse varieties for the Wexler Team's ongoing cataloging effort. WDDR-002 represents the second such variety documented for the year, its working die having received a secondary hub impression at a slight offset during manufacture. The Roosevelt Dime has been struck continuously since 1946, making it one of the longest-running active coin designs in American history. Over those decades, the die production process has evolved — modern CNC technology now assists in hub creation, and hydraulic presses have replaced older mechanical equipment — yet the fundamental physics of pressing one hardened metal surface into another still produces occasional misalignment.
