Description

Part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series, the 2017 (P) George Rogers Clark National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter from the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of 35,000, this is a scarce issue — ranked 3rd of 5 mint variants by mintage, with 23% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse shows George Rogers Clark leading his men across flooded plains toward Fort Sackville. Inscriptions: GEORGE ROGERS CLARK, INDIANA, 2017 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The 1779 capture of Fort Sackville was a daring campaign that secured the Northwest Territory for the young United States. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value is approximately $113. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #623187.
