Description

The 2017 (P) Burnished Ellis Island National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts an immigrant family approaching Ellis Island with the hospital building in the background. Ellis Island processed over 12 million immigrants from 1892 to 1954 who came seeking a new life in America. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value is approximately $113. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #658374.
