Description

The 2017 (P) Burnished Frederick Douglass National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts Frederick Douglass at a writing desk with his home, Cedar Hill, visible in the background. The site preserves the final home of the renowned abolitionist who escaped slavery to become one of the most influential voices for human rights. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value is approximately $113. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #626839.
