2017 (P) Ozark National Scenic Riverways Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-030

Description

2017-P MO WDDR-030 is a doubled die reverse on the 2017-P Ozark National Scenic Riverways quarter (Missouri) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling consists of two extra stones along the upper right side of the cellar window. Obverse Stage A shows a weak dent at the rim over the O in OF, plus small gouges under the right side of the O of DOLLAR, under the designer's initials JF, right of the A in DOLLAR and over its R. On Stage B the dent remains, but every Stage A gouge has been abraded away. New on Stage B: a crack crossing the bust's base, plus a chip over the last R of QUARTER on its left side; gouges at the bust's front tip, left of the T in LIBERTY, over the right side of that T, over the R in DOLLAR toward its left side and on the bridge of the nose; and a small gouge between the T and E of STATES, up at their tops. Reverse Stage A has a small gouge in the field beneath the gap between OZARK and RIVERWAYS. By Stage B that gouge is abraded away, and the die shows a pre-die break depression on the left roof, a chip inside the R of the designer's initials RG (upper opening), a gouge near the branches under the W of RIVERWAYS, and a gouge between the stones to the right of the cellar window and the diagonal beam that overlaps them. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
