Description

Listed in the Wexler census of 2017-P Ozark National Scenic Riverways Quarter doubled die reverses (reference: 2017-P 25c MO WDDR-017), this variety is in the DDR family for this Missouri design. The Ozark Riverways reverse by Ronald D. Sanders and Renata Gordon shows Alley Mill, with trees and water providing a richly textured setting. Hub doubling on this variety often requires careful examination to identify — the displacement may affect a smaller zone of the design or manifest with a narrower spread. The ATB quarter program, running from 2010 through 2021 with five designs per year through 2020 (one in 2021), produced an enormous aggregate volume of quarters across all three active mint facilities, and the 2017 Ozark issue benefited from systematic variety hunting by specialists who examined fresh rolls soon after release. Copper-nickel clad composition at 5.67 grams, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, 24.26 mm diameter. No additional cross-references beyond the Wexler designation are documented for WDDR-017.
