The 2016 (P) Harpers Ferry National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a quarter in the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts John Brown's Fort, the armory fire engine house from his 1859 raid. Harpers Ferry sits at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers and witnessed pivotal events including the largest Civil War surrender of Federal troops.
