Description

The 2016 (P) Burnished Cumberland Gap National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites β€” struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts a frontiersman gazing westward through the historic natural passage. Cumberland Gap served as the primary gateway for westward migration, with over 300,000 settlers passing through on their way to Kentucky and Tennessee. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #605350.
