Description

The 2016 (P) Burnished Fort Moultrie National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a special strike quarter struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. With a mintage of 17,882, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only 8% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts Sergeant William Jasper returning the regimental flag to the fort's palmetto-log ramparts during battle. Fort Moultrie marks the site of the first decisive American victory of the Revolutionary War in 1776. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $280 SP70 08-24-2022 eBay. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #605352.
