Description
The 2015 (P) Saratoga National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. With a mintage of 45,000, this is a scarce issue — ranked 2nd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 25% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts British General Burgoyne surrendering his sword to American General Gates. Saratoga preserves the site of the 1777 battles widely considered the turning point of the Revolutionary War, as the American victory convinced France to enter as an ally. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value is approximately $113. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #545554.
