Description
The 2015 (P) Burnished Homestead National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a special strike quarter struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. With a mintage of 20,360, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only 10% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts a log cabin, crops, and a pump well representing the three fundamentals of survival for homesteaders. Homestead National Monument commemorates the Homestead Act of 1862, which transformed the American West by enabling millions of families to establish farms. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $265 SP70 01-14-2019 eBay. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #540156.
