Cataloged as ADC-1c-2015-01 by MadDieClashes, this 2015 Philadelphia Lincoln Shield cent preserves an atypical die clash — a collision between obverse and reverse dies that occurred with the dies offset from their normal alignment. Strong clash marks from the reverse appear on the obverse, most notably the partial word UNUM visible next to Lincoln's bow tie. Reciprocal transfers are present on the reverse: the back of Lincoln's neck is clashed into the reverse die, and the underpart of Lincoln's chin is also visible in the reverse field. The coin belongs to the collection of Chris Freda. Attribution markers include a crack in Lincoln's forehead and a die chip above the R in PLURIBUS on the shield's left edge. Atypical die clashes differ from typical ones because the dies were misaligned during the clash event, causing transferred design elements to appear in unexpected positions rather than their mirror-image locations. The Shield cent's bold geometric reverse creates distinctive clash patterns that differ markedly from the architectural Memorial reverse used through 2008.
