Description

This entry is a spiked head documented for the 2013 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cent. A spiked head results when a crack in the obverse die runs from the rim into Lincoln's bust, producing a raised spike on Lincoln's portrait in subsequent strikes. Separate obverse dies cracked this way during the year's production run, each producing a spike with unique positional characteristics. The 2013 cent was the fourth year of the Shield design, by which point spiked heads on this type were well known to variety researchers. SKH-1c-2013-05 is cataloged by Cuds on Coins.
