2013 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-029

Description

Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2013-P 25¢ SD WDDR-029, this Philadelphia-struck Mount Rushmore America the Beautiful quarter exhibits doubled die reverse characteristics concentrated on the lower portion of Thomas Jefferson's nose within the reverse memorial design. This is a replacement listing, as the original WDDR-029 was determined to correspond to an earlier die. The obverse carries several diagnostic markers: heavy abrasion along the left edge, a large die gouge above the I in LIBERTY, another within the lower opening of the E in LIBERTY, and additional gouges at the inner left side of the U in QUARTER and below both the U in TRUST and the ear. On the reverse, a die break interrupts the top of Washington's head below the RU in RUSHMORE, while a die crack extends northward from the suspended worker's right foot. A large die gouge sits below the right end of the scaffolding, and weak die scrapes appear in front of Jefferson's left eye. Attributed by the Wexler Team, this variety rewards careful examination of the memorial scene under magnification.
