2013 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-027

Description

Targeting one of America's most recognizable monuments, the 2013 Philadelphia Mint Mount Rushmore National Park quarter WDDR-027 shows doubling on the lower part of Thomas Jefferson's carved nose as it appears in the granite relief on the reverse. The America the Beautiful quarter for South Dakota's Mount Rushmore features the four presidential faces in miniature, and hub displacement on Jefferson's nose demonstrates that even fine sculptural detail at this reduced scale can register doubled die effects. Specific die markers aid authentication on both sides. The obverse carries a die gouge to the right of the top of the A in QUARTER, a small die gouge to the right of the bottom of the last R in QUARTER, a small die gouge below the G in GOD, and a die gouge between the bottoms of the R and I in AMERICA. On the reverse, a die gouge appears above the leftmost scaffolding post and a small die gouge sits inside Jefferson's left eye.
