Description

The 2012 (P) Chaco Culture National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse offers a view of two elevated kivas from the Chetro Ketl complex with the north wall and canyon wall beyond. Chaco Culture preserves ruins of a major center of Ancestral Puebloan civilization that flourished between 850 and 1250 AD. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value is approximately $113.
