Description
2012-P AK WDDR-001, cataloged by the Wexler team, is a doubled die reverse on the Denali National Park quarter (Alaska) struck at Philadelphia in 2012 for the America the Beautiful series. The doubling shows at the rear of the Dall sheep's neck. Wexler describes two stages of each die. Obverse Stage A has a gouge in the field left of the forehead. By Obverse Stage B that gouge has been abraded away, and Stage B shows a die crack through the designer's initials JF, a thin north-south scratch lying between the Y's arms in LIBERTY, another north-south scratch to the ponytail's right, near the G in GOD, and a gouge under the TE in UNITED. Wexler notes no significant markers on Reverse Stage A. Reverse Stage B has die chips on the leftmost peak and a large gouge well above the first U in PLURIBUS. Joseph Duke submitted Stage A and George W. Powell, Jr. submitted Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references.
