The 2011 (P) Vicksburg National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. With a mintage of 33,000, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only 20% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts the ironclad gunboat USS Cairo on the Yazoo River. Vicksburg National Military Park commemorates the pivotal 1863 siege that gave the Union control of the Mississippi River, splitting the Confederacy in two.
