Description
The 2011 (P) Chickasaw National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. With a mintage of 33,000, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only 20% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts the Lincoln Bridge spanning Travertine Creek. Chickasaw National Recreation Area protects freshwater and mineral springs that have held cultural significance for centuries, originally established as the Sulphur Springs Reservation in 1902. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $1,540 MS69 10-28-2012 Great Collections. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #507392.
