Description

The 2011 (P) Burnished Olympic National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a quarter in the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts a Roosevelt elk on a gravel river bar along the Hoh River with Mount Olympus in the background. Olympic National Park encompasses three distinct ecosystems: glacier-capped mountains, old-growth temperate rainforest, and rugged Pacific coastline. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value is approximately $376. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #507411.
