2011 (P) Proof United States Army Dollar - Atypical Die Clash ADC-C100C-2011-01AC
Error
Description
ADC-C100c-2011-01AC is an atypical die clash on a 2011-P United States Army commemorative proof dollar, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. The obverse shows that it clashed against a reverse die, but the reverse die carries no matching marks. MDC suggests that a Mint employee probably changed out the reverse die and kept the clashed obverse die in service for an unknown time. At the lowest point between the two helmets on the obverse are clash marks from the shield, the outline of the eagle's neck, the ribbon, the recessed space between those, and the feathered wing of the eagle. MDC gives an approximate overlay of the positions in which the dies seem to have met, plus a close-up of the overlay at the area in question. The coin was found by Louis Schaeffer.
