Description

The 2011 (P) Gettysburg National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. With a mintage of 33,000, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only 20% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument at Cemetery Ridge, commemorating the regiment's defense during Pickett's Charge. Gettysburg preserves the site of the 1863 Civil War battle that marked a turning point in the war. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $2,092 MS70 09-21-2023 eBay. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #507365.
