2011-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001
ErrorDescription
Displaying Class VIII (Tilted Hub) characteristics, WDDR-001 on the 2011-D Jefferson Nickel shows spread below the upper left corner of the door frame on the center door above the steps of Monticello. Tilted Hub doubling occurs when the hub is canted at a slight angle during the hubbing process, creating displacement that varies in direction and magnitude depending on the element's position relative to the tilt axis. This architectural detail doubling — localized to a specific structural feature of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello — demands careful examination with magnification, as the door frame geometry can make the displaced image difficult to distinguish from the intended design at lower power. No obverse die markers have been documented. On the reverse, a small die dot appears at the lower right of the long left window of Monticello, providing a secondary confirmation point independent of the doubling itself. The 2011-D Jefferson Nickel was struck at Denver in the standard copper-nickel composition. Cross-referenced as Wexler 2011-D WDDR-001. Attributed by Allen Darrow.
