Description

The 2010 WDDR-003 is a doubled die reverse variety on the Millard Fillmore Presidential Dollar from the Philadelphia Mint. Position A and Position B name which way up the edge lettering runs (on Position A it reads upside down when the portrait faces up); the Mint added the lettering after striking, in random orientation, so the same die variety occurs with either. Fillmore, the 13th president of the United States, served from 1850 to 1853 as the last Whig to hold the office, and is historically noted for signing the Compromise of 1850. The doubling on this variety resulted from a misalignment during die hubbing that produced visible extra thickness on reverse design elements. This variety carries the Wexler designation 2010-P $1 MF WDDR-003.
